Treatment Room

When you arrive at Cedarwood Osteopathic Clinic:

The first step is a consultation, where the osteopath will ask you a series of questions about your background, medical history and the nature of your symptoms in order to build up a holistic case history. This in-depth consultation is an essential part of the process, ensuring that you receive the best possible care tailored to your specific needs.

During this consultation, the osteopath may carry out a variety of simple, targeted tests to evaluate your physical condition, assess your posture and observe how your spine and other joints move. After this, the osteopath will discuss potential treatment options, which can include osteopathic treatment and/or acupuncture.

This consultation is free of charge and if you do not want to proceed with treatment please tell the osteopath.

Treatment:

If osteopathic treatment is recommended – and you are happy to proceed – this will take place during the same visit. Usually, patients get undressed to their underwear and are given a medical gown to wear. However, if this is a problem in any way, please tell the osteopath.

Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, relieve muscle tension, enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and help your body’s own healing mechanisms.

After your visit:

Before leaving, the osteopath may give you instructions on activities or procedures to do at home. This can include application of ice or heat, avoidance of certain activities or positions, home exercises or advice on posture – these aim to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.

Some patient experience discomfort in the days after treatment. If you have any concerns, simply call us on 01536 390868 to discuss this with the osteopath.

Scheduling the next appointment:

While some conditions can be effectively treated in one session, some patients may require more than one treatment.
